Garland Collection Screen

The naturalistic carving of 17th century woodworker Grinling Gibbons serves as the inspiration for the Williamsburg Garland Collection. Master carver to Charles II, Gibbons was commissioned to create architectural ornamentation - paneling, mantels, and fireplace surrounds - for such noteworthy building projects as St. Paul's Cathedral, Hampton Court, and Windsor Castle. Richly carved garlands as well as festoons of fruits and flowers became his hallmark.
